KATE WOOD
MBACP IATE
I am an experienced and committed Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I am passionate about enabling children and young people to tell their stories, make sense of their inner worlds and develop the capacity for deeply fulfilling relationships. Using metaphor, imagery and healing conversations I help children work effectively with their emotional difficulties, which can be unbearable and difficult to understand. Staying present, attuned and attentive throughout the child’s personal journey, I am able to hold their discomfort, their sadness and their anger and stay with them in the process.

I offer a calm, open and welcome space in my studios in Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds. I work with children and young people creatively using drawing, painting, clay, sand, storytelling, puppets, music or drama to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship in which their own narratives can unfold. I am integratively trained and call upon many theoretical ideas.

I offer long and shorter-term work depending on the needs of the child or young person.

Working with body and mind - I use evidence-based therapeutic interventions to help the child work through their difficult feelings, establish good stress regulatory pathways and help develop frontal lobe function. In turn helping them learn, grow in confidence and discover a sense of self.

I hold a post graduate Diploma in Child Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the Institute of Arts in Therapy and Education and I am registered member of the BACP and IATE. I have an enhanced DBS and a Level 1 certificate in Safeguarding Children.

I have particular interests in working with LGBTQ+ clients and young people affected by sexual abuse.

Safety, confidentiality and trust are of utmost importance and I ensure I adhere to all BACP ethical guidelines.
